Early dinner gathering (Capital Grille, DC): Absolutely gorgeous classic Chevalier nose displaying elegant yet expressive white fruit with a hint of yellow, pear, white peach, lemon curd, lanoline, a hint of mint, white flowers and strong limestone mineral. Exceptional balance and precision, very finely layered white fruit, so elegant, weightless, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long perfectly ripe white fruit driven finish with subtle mineral and light caramel at the end. This is a text book Chevalier, Audrey Hepburn. Apparently I had it in 2018 with a similar impression with the identical rating.

2001 Red Burgundy at Chez Hugo (Chez Hugo, Baltimore): Wow. A laser sharp focus nose. Tightly coiled at first this blossoms over time in the glass. Incredibly fresh and pure, with lemon, apple, white flowers, and rocks with a sense of limestone. This has great depth and extract, almost toothsome at points, yet incredibly fresh. Power and finesse. It has pinpoint precision, yet is simultaneously expansive on the palate. It's soil, acid, and fruit are all perfectly balanced. A soil to glass transfer to steal a term. It has huge cut with gem like precision. A wine of contrasts that finishes incredibly long yet simultaneously fresh. Terrific tension and balance, a great expression of Chevalier Montrachet. Fantastic. This is exactly what I want in a white Burgundy. 97 pts now with room to grow. Wow.

2001 Red Burgundy Retrospective (Chez Hugo - Baltimore): Exquisite nose that screams Chevalier, very pure subtle white fruit, pear, lemon curd, honey, beeswax, strong floral note, rain water, smoke and limestone. Very pure and detailed palate, finely layered subtle white fruit, good freshness and energy, perfect amount of acidity and mineral and a long subtle white fruit driven finish that delicately resonates. As usual, not showing the power of Batard, but very noble expression of harmony, elegance and energy. No sign of premox. The wine to seek at auction.

Sample is too cold really but there is an intense minerality here; rich, concentrated - an explosive palate which builds and builds. Powerful. Strong finish. 93-95.
