  • A 2002 Mugneret-Gibourg Horizontal: Lovely wine, but never really got there for me, as a wine from such an illustrious vineyard. Showed creamy on the nose, with butterscotch and toffee aromas prominent, hints of stone, but just hints. Over two hours in the glass the wine did not seem to have much more to reveal. Others at the table felt differently I think, but no one seemed really moved by this bottle. If I had any I would drink up - not getting much better, i would think.

  • This was my last bottle of this wine and it showed almost exactly the same as noted in my prior posts.

Overall, it is quite nice with just a hint of excess toasty oak (if you are sensitive to this). Very close to 95 point quality

  • From a great looking bottle, this wine had a brilliant, deep yellow color. The medium+ intensity nose featured citrus, honey, creme brulee, and white stone. This bottle seemed to channel all the best flavor elements of past bottles.

In the mouth, this wine showed the rich ripe texture of 1992 along with the refinement of Chevalier. The overt ripeness and dramatic flavors may be a bit to bold for some, but the lemon and mineral finish was impressive.

This appears to be right in the zone (with 2+ hours of air). However, it will last for at least 5 years at this level.

  • From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a dep yellow center and clear rims. The high- intensity nose displayed lemon zest, apples, vanilla, and white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was quite rich and ripe but with firm acidity that nicely balanced the weight. This came across more like a Batard due to the year.

Again, even after 4+ hours of air, this wine seems a bit young. It will easily last 10 years and may even get better.

  • From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose took 5 hours to develop. It displayed lemon, lime, macaroons, and white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was quite rich with lots of glycerin. Yet, at the same time, in was well balanced and refined. The oakiness I have detected in the past only showed up early and dissipated after an hour or so. The solid acidity was buried under glycerin and fruit.

Overall, this wine still seems a bit too young and tight. While it certainly can be consumed, my guess is it will last and may even get better over the next 5-10 years.
