Another lost Friday afternoon gathering – Mostly Burgundies with a few from Piedmonte (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): Medium expressive nose displaying ripe and slightly coiled yellow fruit, golden delicious, a hint of lemon curd, light caramel, sweet spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, slightly coiled concentrated yellow fruit, rich, dry extract, good acidity, medium mineral and a medium long ripe yellow fruit driven finish with a hint of caramel at the end. Although very enjoyable, it lacks the finesse and weightlessness of Chevalier Montrachet. IMO, the vintage matters more than anything else in white burgundy.

This wine is crackling with energy. It shows signs of the warmer vintage: essence of pear rather than citrus/lemon, and if that appeals to you, you’re in business. Exquisitely delineated and focused, with layers, density and length. Superb

Finished this the second day, and it wasn’t quite at the level of prior night, though still excellent
