Wine decanted for 15-30 mins and consumed for 2 hrs. Started with a funk nose, but disappeared in 15 mins. Leather, earth, menthol and floral. Still hold well, but should consume in the next 2-3 yrs before passing its peak.

Birthday dinner at Sichuan Douhua. Served as a pair with the 90 Gouges Les st Georges. This was a different wine, but just as powerful and enjoyable. Dark red, with just a tiny hint of browing at the rim. Nose was funky, some earth, barnyard and old saddle leather. This blew off quickly, dark fruits emerged with lots of minerals and scorched earth. Tart cherries, raspberries and black tea. Palate was powerful, very meaty and smoky, with a good balance of minerality, ripe fruits and acid. The 1990s are just brilliant. Every wine from a village to a GC just shows the ripeness, power, complexity and balance. This drank brilliantly and is in a perfect drinking window. Half the table chose this as WOTN, but I preferred the Gouges.

Herb, menthol and floral aromas. A bit savory with chocolate and blackberry on the palate. Rich, great fruit, ripe, and very good balance.
