We had a taste off with the 2008 BV Latour Reserve against the 2006 Stags Leap the Poetry and 2009 Frank CS. Hands down the BV was the winner with a more integrated, rounded taste and pleasant lingering taste. The Stags' Leap Poetry was a close 2nd and Frank a distant 3rd. We also threw in the 2009 Januik at the end. It ranked below the Frank

Did a side by side with 2009 Beaucastel Coudoulet Rhone blend and 2009 Lewis Syrah. The Beaucastel was significantly deeper with mushroom earthy taste and nose. Lewis was more fruit forward, but not as much depth. preferred Beaucastel

Did a dinner party with Klinker Brick 2010, Januik Lewis 2009 and Joseph 2010: Lewis was first, Klinker Brick second and Joseph third. This had a great balance of fruit and tannin

Deep noir color. Chocolate and cinnamon nose. Coffee and black licorice tones with a butterscotch biscuit finish. Stiff body that relaxes with mouth time. All in all an engaging Syrah from a NW player.
