Chef Nita's Tasting Menu (Craig's House): First time I've tasted this since visiting the domaine in 2006. Gorgeous, classic Côte-Rôtie -- so smoky and bacony. Intense smoky red fruit, earth, and minerals, framed by suave, ripe tannins. Added complexity in the glass. Really nicely structured and balanced.

Wines with Nita's Tasting Menu: Huge nose with pronounced aromas of bacon and smoke mixed with red fruit and mineral. Quite impressive! Mid-weight on the palate with good balance and nice flavor intensity giving mostly tart red fruit. Still fairly tannic. Nice balance. No hurry to drink these -- they should continue to develop for some time yet.

Dinner with Chris (2000 CdP -- Beaucastel, Mon Aieul, Clos des Papes): I tried this at the domain last summer and was impressed. Sourced this bottle from Winebid. Decanted and consumed over about two hours. The nose is very attractive -- sweet with cranberry, smoke, and floral notes. Not terribly complex or intense but very nice. On the palate this gives ripe red fruit and smoke. Maybe a bit tart. Decent balance and a decent finish. This is a very solid wine.

France Trip Part 2 - Northern Rhône; 6/18/2006-6/20/2006: Tasted at the domaine. From half bottle. Black color. Beautiful smoky nose, roasted meat, charcoal. Medium bodied; good minerality. Nicely developed secondary characteristics. Excellent.

Tasted at the domaine. 375 ml. 12% alcohol. Fantastic balance of fruit and decay. Sous-bois, mineral, charred meat, cranberry fruit, light prune. Impressive, with a flattering level of maturity.
