Thomas’s Northern Rhone extravaganza (Cabotte): Dark gold, unsurprisingly. Bitter nuts, yellow raisins and exotic woods on the nose... yum. Toast, butter and hazelnut found on the palate, seasoned with a touch of rancio, and then icing sugar-sweetness coming through with time in the glass. This was divisive, but to my taste absolutely delicious. Great start.

Syrah at Cabotte (Cabotte): Easily the oldest white rhone I’ve ever drunk. 14.5%. Whiff of VA on the nose. Quite oxidised; oranges, marzipan, but by no means over and done with. Acidity is pretty spikey on the palate but some ripe stone fruit notes remain. I *really* like this - but I was in the minority to say the least. Perhaps I was just looking forward to the evening!

Full-bodied, silky mouthfeel with honey, apricot, and tropical fruit elements. Paired with a variety of cheeses, fruit, and tangerine honey, this was an absolutely stellar experience.

Found this quite flat footed - lacking much in the way of fruit or complexity. If anything towards tropical fruit but tasted almost dusty.
Not sure if defective - will see with next bottle

No formal notes. Overall a very mild wine with good minerality and not so much acidity.
