(Mount Mary CHARDONNAY) Mount Mary Dear Friends, We continue the theme for today with two more cellared gems, this time from Mount Mary. Revered more like Marcassin on their home turf but basically ignored here in the US - all at nearly half price (these prices are crazy - it would be like selling the above mentioned Marcassin at half price?). This a chance to go outside your comfort zone to experience something that has a chance to widen your wine horizon: Both are EXTREMELY LIMITED: 2000 Mount Mary Chardonnay (Yarra Valley) This wine is produced from a Meursault like vineyard and it is one of the most sought after white wines in Oz. Known to age for years (like Leeuwin), we showcased several old vintages of this wine at the Classic Wines of Australia tasting series and they were eye-opening indeed with rocky, terroir-infused personalities and a mid-palate that was highly memorable. The best vintages of this wine are very approachable upon release, shut down after a year or two and re-emerge after 4-6 years. They leave a lasting impression of elegance and stone in the mouth and the 2000 version should age in that vein. This aged parcel has been perfectly cellared since release - it is VERY RARE in this condition: 2000 Mount Mary Triolet (Yarra Valley) Mount Mary makes this curiosity in the best vintages. It is a blend of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle and (with age) it can wow a staid crowd. A cross between an aged Laville Haut Brion and Vouvray, it is one of my favorite wines from this area as the blend is so unusual that only this winery could get away with it and turn it into a cult wine in Australia (which it is). Highly sought after and collected like baseball cards, this is another eye-opening wine that should find a cozy place in your collection. Like the above wine, it has been perfectly cellared since release. Also, VERY RARE with this provenance: . Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Aus3710 Aus3720
