delicate rendition of Bonnes Mares but this is showing some nice secondary development at this point. Minty herbs, cedar chest, dried rose petal, antique furniture with licorice and a note of dill. This is also starting to show some of the hallmark sous bois character that commands your attention at once. Fresh, good acidity but not at all lean or shrill. This should continue to show more charm with continued devlopment. 92-93.

My 40th Birthday Weekend; 2/17/2017-2/20/2017: From magnum. Drouhin-Laroze gets dinged for being a bit foursquare and wood-heavy. This was very nice and balanced, with a clean profile of red fruits, subtle candied notes, and bit of fading baking spice. I would never have been able to guess Bonnes Mares blind. But a solid and pretty wine in a great place.

A recent Gilman note called this surprisingly advanced and recommended drinking this in the near term, but this bottle was pretty much where you'd expect a 15-year-old grand cru to be and seemed to need more time to unwind. That sense of torque definitely made it a masculine contrast to the Latricieres we had with it. It was enjoyable nonetheless though because the structure wasn't as constricting as '96s have been for awhile, the fruit was deep and dense enough to be in the foreground, and the briary aromatics were relatively forthcoming.
