Dinner at Tonny's (Tonny Restaurant, Geylang Lor 3, Singapore): Very enjoyable, but again lacking a touch of finesse. The nose was a nice mix of sweet violets and deep blueberry fruit, earth, meat and just a touch of spice. The nose had a nice balance and and feel to it, with soft tannins and decent acidity wrapped around a core of blue fruit, again sprinkled with a bit of spice and some mineral. The 2004 came in at the end, with a touch of bittersweet bramble and mint sprig at the very end. Overall very enjoyable though. Good time to drink too.

Family dinner. Two bottles decanted together for 2hrs. Noticeable signs of bricking. As per my note of two years ago, there was an overlay of charred oak and smoke. The fruit comes out in the middle palate, brooding dark hedgerow fare with a spine of somewhat green acidity that provides the balance. Good oak/smoke length. To produce an enjoyable, albeit lower end, excellent wine in such a poor/indifferent vintage is a notable achievement - but it needs to be drunk up. These were my last.

Opened with trepidation given some very green wines from this vintage and poured after a 45 minute decant. Nose of ripe cherry, some oak and smoke. Impressively full, concentrated flavour of ripe plum and sour cherry with little 2004 astringency, smooth tannins and good length. Certainly a couple of years ahead of it at this level. A good effort in a challenging vintage.

Burned, green and uncharming, didn't blow off with air. No pinot fruit. A shame as this producer usually makes great wines at good QPR.
