  • Unoaked. Cabernet Franc planted in 1934. Medium+ body but smooth feel at this stage. Dark berries. Very vegetal and earthy on the nose. Medium+ acid. Some tannins but they’re ripe and soft. Still fresh. Everyone thought it was a young wine. Just mild bricking so it wasn't obvious. No tertiary notes yet. Shows traditional, pre-global warming green notes in Loire Valley, but it's still ripe green notes that are well integrated and mostly on the nose compared to the palate. 91+

  • Mellow stewed and slightly candied jalapeño and blackberry! This is alive and lovely!

  • w/ Kwin and Nina.
Medium minus ruby-garnet. Nose has ripe bell peppers quite developed - tobacco, earth. Quite savory. Fruit is very reticent on the nose right out of the bottle - maybe it will come alive? On the palate it's delicious. Some fruit still - kind of a forest floor with some squashed blackberries in it. Dried blackberries and raspberries. Good developed pyrazines. Medium body, medium plus acid, low+ soft melted tannins.

Maybe not the fruit depth I remember but this wine is still delicious and has interesting things to say. I'm excited for where some oxygen takes this wine!

update: It didn't open up that much - it remained delicious, with some savory tobacco, wet leaves, and bell pepper depth, and also some dark fruit. But it never became as aromatic as I was hoping. Still, a nice visit with an old friend.

  • Very slowly maturing, notes as before. Excellent drinking now.

  • Fairly deep red center, red rim with some signs of age.
Classic Cab Franc nose, lots of green pepper, coffee bean, tart red fruit.
Smooth, raspberries and red cherries, good acidity, a little nuttiness, leafy, great finish.
Great aged Cab Franc, wonderful that a wine of this age and quality can be purchased for $35 now. Good now, but has the acidity and fruit to last longer.
