Expectations weren’t high, and rightly so. Had a good green pepper Cab Franc nose, but also a strong cider vibe. No tannins, relatively smooth, but clearly over the hill (not undrinkable but also not rewarding).

From 1.5L magnum. Ethereal, wispy, a skeleton of its former self. Heavy on green pepper, dried french herbs. Effectively no finish at this stage, tannins are nearly imperceptible, acidity is uplifting. Enjoyable as a light wine, but do drink now.

P&p; best with 30+ minutes of air in the bottle; held up well over two hours, doesn't seem particularly fragile. Aromas along the lines of cigarette tobacco and rose, clearly aged but wouldn't guess 30 years. Same on the palate, with some nice cherryish fruit. Good bright acidity. Seems to have aged quite elegantly. Highly drinkable/moreish/just plain tasty; good value.

750ml. Enjoyable, but soft and faded compared to the 1989. Drink now or 5 years ago.

From magnum. At Alex's. Delightful out of the gate with a similar aromatic profile as the 96. Earthy. Rich.
