  • This wine has held up amazingly well. There was little to no bricking, classic Bordeaux aroma, but the fruit was muted. It made me wonder what it was like in its prime.

  • I bought this so old wine on base of RP vintage guide. It's said that 1986 vintage was outstanding one in Saint Julien( 94 pts.) and wine are still tannins, youthful and slow to mature. Well... probably Leoville Las Cases or Chateau Leoville Barton wines, but not this little brother ( sister?). This one is ready to drink.
First glass - I thought that I drink Welch's Concord grape juice. Full of water and no taste. No acidity, no flavors.
Second glass - ok, this is actually a wine ( nice taste and acidity at the end), but what I will do with 2 more bottles!??
Third glass - wow, this is not the only wine, but good wine.
Ok, let's go to the beginning. I didn't mention aromas, but this is the best thing in this wine. Strong, well defined from the very first sniff and they last forever ( through third glass at least). Load of tobacco, cedar, smoke, cassis ( lovely), leather ( big!), coffee. Taste ( review is based on third glass ((big portion, slow sipping)).
Taste, unfortunately, is not so complicated as smell, but wait... texture is so silky, that I have never experienced it at any wine before. Flavors - herbs, cedar, raspberry (?)
Relatively short finish with soft spice, soft acidity and nice tannins ( yes it is still here)

I couldn't resist to drink one more glass and I don't regret it. Finally I got to the heart of this wine. More soft acidity, more soft tannins( but grippy at finish) and , most important, sweet flavors, like black cherry and black currant has showed up.
Smell - still the same. Powerful, atomic and at the same level of concentration.

  • Popped and left for about an hour before consumption. Meaty, savoury, red and black hued fruit, slightly dried out blackcurrant, chalky minerality. Juicy medium plus intensity acidity, savoury and grippy tannins, red and black fruits are muted but grow with time. Nice.

  • Worth drinking now if you are holding.

  • Stinky. Not tight. Rather after the date according to the community. More nose than expected and not at all orange around the edges. Two minutes after opening is a bit thin on the tongue. Needs to warm a bit. Opening to the tongue quickly. French wine dirty. Tasting back over the hump in the tongue. Smells like dirt now.
