  • 3/12. This is absolutely singing currently. Bright ruby to garnet at the rim. Sweet fruited, spicy mid to full red fruit with a touch of emerging sous bois. Really all about the precise and finely crystalline sweet red fruit though. So moreish. ****

  • 6/12, vg cork.
Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale garnet rim.
Aromatic, pure strawberry fruit, touch of game. Medium bodied, pure red fruits, touch of spice, soft tannins, quite gamey now across the mid-palate, good length harmonious finish. Excellent, drinking well, more mellow and secondary and less striking and fruit-forward than in its youth.

  • Wow, my first Fourrier and it didn't disappoint- I think solid value even around $110. It was the type of wine that readily trades outward expressivity for complexity, but it certainly wasn't shy, and it was pretty amazing how each of the many varied elements were so clearly delineated and identifiable (at least for me, when compared to some other similarly-priced Burgundies!)

Fairly gentle but super beautiful nose with a lot going on- little hints of gamey barnyard funk, cedary woodsmoke, cinnamon, and sage mingled playfully with fresh blueberry, plum, and violets. The nose is mostly very high-toned and although the fruit itself showed on the slightly dark side, it was lifted and energetic rather than feeling "deep" or noticeably ripe. (I like that "depth" found in even warmer vintages too, but this was a beautiful middle-ground.)

On the palate- more electricity than the nose let on. Super zippy red fruit, raspberry, strawberry, more violet florals with a gentle mineral/herbal baritone. The palate itself felt less complex than the nose, was missing some of the gamey tones, but the acidity was beautiful and lingering (maybe a /pinch/ of tartness peeking out above the fruit, but mostly extremely well-integrated). The tannins were initially in the background, but they increased their presence over time; plenty of chalky texture left.

This could age a while longer, but in an amazing spot now. Excellent with paté too, although frankly I liked it more without food, just contemplating all the little subtleties- with food it felt a little less multidimensional.

  • 1/12 If there’s currently a better village MSD than Fourrier’s 2010 I’d like to try it. Sweet fruited, spicy, mid to full red fruit coupled with autumnal influences evolving towards the meaty. Beautifully balanced between youth and maturity. Really lovely village wine.****
