  • Purchased this via a collector on Vinfolio a few months back and figured I'd roll the dice. Not very experienced with aged wine in general, so this was a bit of an experiment for me. Cork was a little soggy and starting to come apart at the bottom, but I was able to get it out in one piece. Color was medium garnet, fading to brick red at the rim. Nose had stewed plums, a hint of black cherry and possibly stewed blackberries in the background, with some old leather chair vibes from the oak. Palate had a great mouth feel, resolved tannins, light acidity which became more evident as it warmed up in the glass. Reenforced a lot of the flavors I found on the on the nose, with some extra vanilla, more leather, and a backbone of slightly sweet plums. In the late mid-palate it had this cool umami fattiness at a certain temperature. Highly enjoyable, and my girlfriend really liked it too. Had this alongside an Oxtail Ragu, and light Fennel-Arugula salad.

  • Dark garnet in color. Beautiful nose of blackberry, plum, violets, barnyard and cedar. Immaculate development and at peak of maturity IMHO. Dry, silky smooth, velvety tannins with pronounced acidity in great harmony with the fruit extract. There is a magical blend of rusticity and posh here. Like a fancy restaurant in a farm. The finish is unending and elegant. It may be the best Barbera I've ever drank. This should linger at maturity peak for a couple of years, it'll start a slow decline after that. Drink in the short term.

  • PNP into Riedel Bordeaux glass with special stem (“Flower” day): Bright ruby to the eyes. Incredible conditions in my view.

Aromatic with red cherries, florals and secondary notes that is slightly meaty, herbaceous and dusty. Very fresh and also very good depth.

As close as it gets to drinking red cherry / prune / plum juice in a good way - very highly mineral with bright acidity but also the welcoming nature of this grape. Very nice grip or flavours indeed.

This is a great Italian rosso and certainly an outstanding Barbera! Incredible with food too. Clearly 94 points to me.

  • Two more years since my last note; last bottle of this lovely wine.

Color: medium cherry ruby core -> fully bricked, garnet rim. Delicious bouquet of sour cherries, leather, iodine and a little barnyard. Still showing quite the wonderful palate: medium-bodied, great acidity and a reasonably long finish at 20+ years of age. Grilled cherries, acidity, plums and some medicinal aspects make for a great final bottle of this vintage. Held up well over 3+ hours though the acidity was coming on pretty strong at the end there. Cheers to those who still have any and drink up soon I would say!

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep ruby colour, with wide garnet rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of blackberry and plum, red fruit of dark cherries and raspberry, animal notes of leather and meaty, oak notes of cedar, maturity notes of gamey. The wine is fully developed.
Palate: Dry with medium (-) acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, medium (+) alcohol, medium body and medium (+) intensity flavors of black fruit of blackberry, red fruit of raspberry and cherries, oak notes of vanilla, maturity notes of savory, animal notes of leather, kernel notes of chocolate. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Barbera with an intense nose showing great complexity from primary to tertiary aromas, the wine is vibrant despite its age, full of energy and lively, with good structure and elegance. The palate has good concentration and a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 3-5 years.
