  • Brought by two of our friends for an evening hanging out. For some reason this just didn't jump out at me (perhaps because I was most focused on the '95 Yarra Yering which we were drinking at the same time). I remember it being less oak than I often associate with Barbera. Heavier in style. But good with pasta.

  • Dark garnet but bricking throughout. A big wine with brambly berry flavors and dark fruit in an alcoholic framework. This isn't a typical Barbera. It tastes like a hot vintage California wine. The acidity keeps it from being flaccid. There are prune flavors upon opening the bottle, but they blow off with a short decant. Serve now. No reason to cellar any longer.

  • Mind you, this was from a 375ml. Exhibited mature and extracted aromas of dates, prunes, and molasses. Acidic and tart on the palate, this wine is either in a transitional phase or is in decline. Even so, it seems overdone to me, tasting a little like the cherry liqueur one finds in chocolates.
