  • The last bottle from unknown provenance, the cork soaked through and disintegrating during extraction. Pale garnet and tawny. Still alive and with some interest, the nose has touches of mint, sandalwood and red fruits; light bodied and elegant with still a touch of grip on the midpalate, fine acid line throughout, leather, earth, blackcurrant and sour cherry and ginseng notes and reasonable length. Wonderful. 11.5% ABV, and not lacking anything for it.

  • A bottle with unknown provenance, cork soaked (and disintegrated on opening). Garnet with a tawny tint, clear rim, but life left judging by the colour. Shy nose, mint top note and a blackcurrant heart; light-bodied and supple, with still an elegant blackcurrant midpalate, a fine seam of acidity, and still some surprisingly grippy black olive tannins. This has been open for 3 hours, and thought it was starting to fade after 1 hour but no, still marching along. Wonderful, balanced, refreshing. 11.5% ABV.

  • This was a gamble bought with the heart on auction. 2 bottle purchase and this was the first. Drinking absolutely sensational. Didn't think a Coonawarra Cab Sauv could survive this long. Drank side by side with a '78 Leoville Barton and what an interesting session it was. Both great yet different.
