  • Prior bottle was almost 16 months ago and this wine continues to incrementally improve, making me wish I'd opened my initial bottle a few years further down the road! Nose was very similar with red cherry, spices, earth and leather, but much prettier and more balanced than before. Medium bodied with red cherry upfront along with a pleasant brightness. Mid-body felt a bit more rounded than previously and when combined with the better sense of depth and the slightly darker fruit notes behind, there was (finally) the improved complexity I'd hoped this wine would exhibit. Backside shows a mixture of tart black and red cherry, spices, earth and minerals, but because of the better mid-body density and complexity, the wine overall feel much more harmonious. This wine drunk quite well tonight and easily has three years or so ahead of it. Just wished I'd been a bit more patient initially.

  • Best wine pulled my from cellar in quite a while. Drank over the course of three days. Accompanied rack of lamb. Velvety integrated tennis. Gorgeous.

  • Prior bottle was 21 months ago and this bottle did show a bit better than my prior one; is this wine finally coming together? Red cherry, spices, leather and earth notes on the nose. Still smells a bit rustic, but maybe just a touch more refined than before. More medium bodied now (backside tannins make it feel heavier than it really is) with red cherry upfront, showing a good mix of brightness and roundness. Mid-body has a bit more concentration, but no additional complexity. Tart red cherry, earth, spices, leather and acidity on the backside into the finish. The tannins and earthy spices are a bit more integrated, giving the tannins in particular a more fine grained, nearly "sweet" styling after four hours open. The dryness and slight harshness, even some disjointedness that this wine showed in the transition from mid-body to finish in the past is slowly improving. This wine will never justify the initial professional reviews, but it is coming around slowly to a positive state. Next bottle for me will be Summer 2020.

  • Prior bottle was almost 16 months ago and the wine remains in pretty much the same spot. Opened two hours ahead of time and drank over an additional four and it needed all of that. Red cherry, spices and earth on the nose. Between medium and full bodied (14.5% ABV) with red cherry upfront, gaining a little depth through the middle and some nicely tart red cherry towards the back. Good brightness, acidity, spices and mineral qualities through the finish. Integration is slowly improving, but not as well as I'd hoped. Additionally, the complexity, density and elegance one expects of a brunello so well regarded by the critics just wasn't there. Make no mistake, this is a good wine, but it was significantly over hyped. Additional time will serve to continue to allow it to balance and round out, but I don't see it developing the elements to take it to the next level.
