Not the greatest of vintage and it showed. Lacklustred, the wine did not have the zest and energy that one would like to experience from Eden Valley. I am not sure this wine deserves to be called The Wigan.
Drink now or 3+ years but lacked the definition to be any better than what it is now.

Peter Lehman Masterclass (Bel & Brio, Barangaroo): Lime cordial, less forward, oddly enough, than the 2013. Well, less kerosene on the nose, very slight honey. Softer and broader on the palate, thought still exceedingly juicy. Lime is joined by honey, very nice indeed some slightly drying burr on the gums.

Aged nicely and drank well. Some hint of fruit, but not overpowering and fairly dry. It was typically of Barossa rieslings. It had aged slowly but well. It hadnt changed color or texture much despite being 9 years old.

Huge smoky mineral nose coupled with lime blossom, toast and citrus fruit. It is piercing and dry in the mouth with slate and powdered lime flavour. It finishes with great cut and has squint inducing acidity. Length of flavour is terrific.

Year in and year out the Wigan Riesling and Margaret Semillon are a couple of my most anticipated whites to try , especially given there great value in terms of price.
The 08 Wigan is no exception, a light yellow in colour with the nose having dense lime peel and citrus characters with a touch of kerosine that is not out of place.
The palate shows depth and interest which is sometimes missing from the variety in its youth.
Lemon pith, lime and briney oyster shell gain depth from chalky acidity, the wine finishes with grapefruit and considerable length. Review Link - www.winereviewer.com.au (drink from 2013-2025)
