A beast of a wine with a thick texture and strong tannins and acidity. There are classic Northern Rhone flavors lurking underneath but this has years left to integrate fully. A more modern, rich style of Cote Rotie but one that may reward extensive cellaring. Double-decanted 4 hours. 92+

Marcel’s DC Valentines day. Previous notes apply but Jeff’s notes are far better in expressing the nuances. A must have/try if you remotely like Cote-Rotie. One note, many cote-rotie can be aggressive, over the top, while this wine is in perfect balance and stunningly elegant and soohisticated. Patience will reward the most discrimating of pallets. Chef Wiedemier said it is one of his favorites. While not Guigal it is in a class of its own.

Power and precision, purity and poise, tannic, backward, concentrated and mouth-filling, this is not a wine for current consumption. But clearly, this is going to be worth the wait. Give it at least another decade so you can get to all the layers of perfectly ripe, vibrant kirsch, black raspberry, smoke, thyme, herbs and crushed rocks to emerge. This is in perfect balance between its structure and the layers of fruit. Quite refined, but tight, this is a beauty and a potential legendary Cote Rotie.

I'm rating 97 because I don't think I have ever rated a wine this high and perfection is something I am very careful about asserting but this was as close to perfection as I have had to the extent it is difficult to describe. Every nuance was there, complexity, balance of fruit, tannins, acidity. Elegant, velvet...we were at our anniversary dinner at Tosca in DC and Giovanni's only comment was WOW, WOW, WOW. Sorry I don't have more notes.
