Based on my last bottle (June 2016), I figured it was better to drink this bottle sooner, rather than later. Black cherry, floral and vanilla on the nose. Medium bodied and unlike the prior bottle, this one showed no heat and was better balanced overall. Soft (as opposed to bright) black cherry upfront, tempered with vanilla notes (which added depth) and backed with hints of black raspberry, plum and blackberry behind. Better integration between the mid-body and the finish in this bottle as the transition was marked by vanilla, cream and earthy notes. This wine has the fruit to hold at this level for a bit, but it's at peak and won't benefit from further cellar time.

Blackfruit, floral and vanilla notes on the nose. Medium bodied and 14.5% ABV which unfortunately shows through a bit more than it did previously. Black cherry upfront now, with black raspberry and blackberry behind. A lot of oak, tannin and some heat on the finish. Nowhere near as well balanced as it was even just a year ago. I think the best bet here is to hold a little longer to allow the fruit to come back into balance with the structure.

Violet, rose, lots of floral notes and extracted raspberry on the nose. A bit above medium bodied, but not full bodied (for pinot noir). Very rich and extracted, but exceptionally well balanced. All cool blackfruit, showing predominately raspberry and wildberry. Adds in vanilla, cream, earth and integrated tannic structure on the finish. Strength of this wine is how in melds its richness with balance, excellent fruit, but never over the top. Has the strength to last several more years, but probably best enjoyed over the next 2-3 as there is only slight additional upside from waiting at this stage. Very nice California-style pinot.

Tasted at the winery. Dense all the way through. Aromas of sage, plum, mossy earth and violet. The palate featured densely layered red and dark fruit, eucalyptus, earth and mushroom. Smooth and lithe through the palate with fine tannins and a lengthy breathy finish. Very nice, needs a little time.
