Even after over an hour of decanting time, the nose and palate remains tight.
The mushroom notes were not the most pleasant and tannins unresolved too. Plum and cherry notes were reserved, with a medium length finish.
I wanted a more fruit forward wine with greater body, but found my bottle to be on the thin side and lacking complexity and balance.
From the Pessac-Leognan appelation, this 2011 LCHB is a blend of a blend of 55% Merlot, 30% Cab Franc and 15% Cab Sauv, and its aged in 50% new oak.
This 2011 happens to be the 1st vintage produced entirely under the control of the new owner Patrice Pichet, who brought in Stephane Derenoncourt too.
Probably deserving of say 3.8 stars, but I docked 0.3 stars for its USD 100+ price. I still want to try other Les Carmes HB vintages but not this 2011 again!
Happy Birthday Joe Yee bro..

Oak, leather and muted smoke - This is one tight 2011, with a rather unbalanced palate.
There seemed to be little characteristic blackberry noted nor a floral aroma. May have stayed as a 3 star.. but saved in the last instance by an elegant medium to medium-long finish pushing this up to 3.5 stars for me.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though, this Les Carmes HB 2011 was very much enjoyed by bro SL. Perhaps my palate had been spoiled by 7 Pontet Canets 18 hours prior to this lunch at Cilantro. Thanks for letting me curate the wines today, E, Z, AM, CJ, S and S!

First wine of the latest producer. A bit abrasive. Not smooth on the palate. Red cherry and strawberry on the nose but you have to strain for it. Very acidic.

Another opportunity to taste the 2011, this time next to a barrel sample of 2017. Less Cabernet Franc in this vintage, more Merlot. Less spicy, less generous, more structure, slightly angular and drying. Decent length. 89-91

Surprisingly pleasant, dry, smooth at the palate and a decently lengthy and gentle at the end.
Definitely value for money.....
