  • Inaugural mensual 17th dinner (Nico Osteria) (Chicago, IL): Versus the 1981, it's clear that this is a real youngster. At a secondary stage of development right now, but still with a good amount of black fruit. Again, there are some really lovely dried herb flavours on the nose here, as well as some of the aforementioned black fruit. The palate shows silky tannins, but there are still some primary elements here. I think this may well evolve into something like the 1981.

  • Seems to be past it's peak, but still solid. Decanted and drank over 2 hours. Nose exhibited good concentration with dark, dried fruit. While very smooth with good mouthfeel it is lacking complexity and the finish is tired. Those flavors remaining fit the classic brunello profile.

  • I wonder why I kept this wine in my cellar for 10 years. Very disappointing. No class or elegance. Old style Brunello. I know that Barbi does not create high class Brunellos, but I thought at least I would enjoy this. I didn't. Now I still have a 1997 Riserva and a 1996 Vigna del Fiore in my cellar. Lets see how they will present themselves. Good that I tasted one of the three. I will not bring the remaining two to a Christmas Dinner. I am afraid, me and my friends would be disappointed.

  • I am really enjoying this bottle....still have a little for today. I was concerned that it was past it prime and saw some bricking at the edges. The wine has nice nose with cherries, burnt orange peal, a little spice. All follows through on the pallet and is nicely integrated. The body on mouth feel is defiantly of a mature wine at or just slightly past prime. I have been holding and trying not to drink but glad I did. Really nice Brunello and I do know my Brunellos.
