Restaurant purchase, no formal notes. Medium black cherry hue. Fresh fruit flavors on the palate are nice but rather simple overall. Clipped finish. 82-84 if scoring.

This has been good in past vintages, but not this time. Earthy, slight cherry fruit. Was totally overwhelmed by a red sauce pasta (and if it doesn't go with this, what good is this wine?)

Blind Sangiovese Tasting (Living Room): Scents of apples and minerality, much lighter than I expected for a chianti. The wine is very straightforward when tasted. The fruit is simple and a little dirty, and theres a hint of something kind of "off" with this, but it doesn't hurt it too much. Decent, but nothing fancy.

Blind Sangiovese Tasting (Dan's Place): Smells like the kitchen trash basket, rotten cherries, and graphite. Soft and creamy on the palate, developing some tannins. Light cherry fruit also present. Quite dry on the finish, but showing some nice acidity. It all covers up the fruit quite a bit though, so not much is showing through. Not too interesting.

(Banfi Chianti Classico) From a winery better known for its fruity, bold, well-structured Brunellos, this Sangiovese is blended with nominal amounts of Canaiolo Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon. A saturated ruby in color, it has aromas of mulberry, orange-spice tea, peppermint, rhubarb, and cedar. It’s medium-bodied and as fruit-forward as one might expect from this producer, with bright notes of plum and cherry, gentle fruit and soft oak tannins, and a long, dark-cherry finish.
