Here I have open a very nice and matured bottle from Guiseppe Mascarello e Figlio and their single vineyard Villero and from the excellent 2008 vintage.
Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio surely ranks as one of Barolos finest producers. The family business dates back to 1881 and to Monforte dAlba. Maurizio (Morissio) bought the Castiglione Falletto Monprivato vineyard in 1904, planting it with the Nebbiolo Michet clone, before relocating the winery to Monchiero in 1919. Today his Barolo Monprivato is widely known as an iconic wine.
2008 For Piedmont, vintage was excellent despite some up and down weather. Vintage quality was excellent and current condition is ready to drink, or keep.
100% Nebbiolo from the single vineyard Villero, situated in the village of Castiglione Falletto in the heart of Barolo.
Clear, dark ruby red color but a slight brick rim.
Fragrance of slightly sweet red berries, strawberry, red cherries, currants, tar and leather, some minerals, tobacco and a slight hint of earthy notes.
Rather slim and soft entry at the palate with an impressively hugh mouthfeel and good depth. Complex in a medium plus body, good structured acidity, but still somewhat rough tannins. But a nice long and spicy aftertaste. Great wine in the start of its drinking window.
Bought back in December 2014 at our Vinmonopol and to the price of NOK 598,00 approx 60.00.
A very impressive Barolo close to its peak and to a very decent price 9 years ago, so great QPR.
Bought during a visit at the domaine a few years ago. Very nice aromatics of tobacco, rose, cedar, liquorice and dry cherries. The palate is tight with grippy fine grained tannins with a very good acidity, still has freshness and is fairly open with plenty of room for the future, good length and delicious classic style Barolo. 91-92

2008 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Villero - this is old school methods are applied and it reflects on this which is one of the finest Barolo I've drunk in such young age. Very approachable already, fine and elegant, dry cherries, floral, fruits, spices. Very nice to drink but in 40+ years this will be the business.

Light in color. Nebb. nose with lavendel , rose and mixed red fruit. Very elegant now , only got 2 hour air. Very good traditional Barolo producer.
