This bottle was spot on...big, brawny and open for business. This blend seems to take age well, but this vintage was atypically tight in its youth. Coming around now, time to try one, but hold a few for the next couple of years.

NSMFOW April '09--Promising CA Wineries (The Grapevine, Salem, MA): Ruby color. Funky nose of dark fruits and cherry, some barnyard. Similar on the palate with a tartness that I found took away from the experience. Tannins largely resolved. Perhaps this bottle was a little off or perhaps I just didn't like it. I would have been disappointed if I had spent $65 on it.

This is in a good place now, just at the beginning of its plateau. Not heavy like some petites can be, but full flavored, rich, and dark. A brooding wine that went wonderfully with steak.

This bottle just beginning to open up. Telltale petite syrah "wet dog" black currant aromas, good concentration, still tannins to resolve. Better still after vacuvined for two days. Just showing that mature cassis with a touch of VA. Should drink better in 6 months.

In an awkward phase, seemingly closed down. Tasty, but hoping for more.
