Lots of black fruit in the nose with dark chocolate, licorice, espresso, and a hint of nuts and earthiness. Dark chocolate, plums, and licorice in the flavor. A big wine, rich deep, and concentrated. Full bodied. nice acidity, and a long lingering finish.Perfect with BBQ ribs.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep purple colour, with fading ruby rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of blackberry, cassis and bilberry, pungent spice of black pepper and licorice, oak notes of smoke and vanilla, kernel notes of coffee, animal notes of leather, maturity notes of savory. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and silky texture, high alcohol, full body and medium (+) intensity flavours of black fruit of blackberry, cassis, kernel notes of walnut, oak notes of toast, pungent spice of black pepper. The wine has a long finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Barossa Shiraz with an intense nose showing amazing complexity, with a wide range of black fruit, black pepper and licorice permeating in the forefront, followed by the oak smoke and vanilla nose, then with coffee, leather and savory wrapping up. On the palate it is powerful yet well-balanced, with good ripe silky tannin and despite the very very high alcohol level was not noticeably mind-blowing. The flavours are very concentrated too with also a long finish. It is ready to drink now but can further develop for another 3-5 years.

Big Meat and Serious Syrah (Westport, CT): Opened and decanted. First sip was quite nice. Really tasted like velvet in a glass. But just oh so young and while the alcohol was not as evident as I'd have expected for 17.6%, it is still there. So left it alone for many hours. With time started to get more pepper in addition to the fruit. Really nice. Going to leave our others to lay down for many more years those. This is a wine to revisit in 20.

Seamless, dense, deep, classy, undisputedly my favorite Australian wine. Smoky, black fruit, pepper all in harmony. Mouth-coating with lingering finish. Some says use of oak is an art, and Chris Ringland is no doubt the genius of it.

First hour funk. Do not drink.
After that super intense and serious.
Should decent for several hours and totally my fault for not doing that but hey I just couldn't wait.
