No sediment, dark red out of the bottle, no color change at the rim. Nose is reasonably open; pencil shavings, wet leaves, mushrooms, bit of smoke. Fruit first (though surprisingly somewhat secondary) bit of acid, few tannins. Nice length. So far so good.
After a few hours it's drinking quite well. It feels evolved but pleasant, with nothing really sticking out. The salient feature is a port-like richness. I would not describe it as precise per se, though definitely enjoyable and a rich, well crafted wine with an excellent finish.

Palate: Moderate acidity. Full bodied. Velvety tannins. Cedar, cassis, cherries. Still very herbaceous. Very light touch of soy sauce. Little salt. Cacao nibs. There is a distinct mushroomy-umami note. Light graham cracker
Finish: Long finish. Cherry, cassis, and pomegranate give way to soy, cacao, and sous bois.

The wine was decanted off its sediment and aired for two hours.
Eye: Dark black center to a light ruby rim.
Nose: Tobacco, booze, curry spice. Licorice. Herbaceous. Dark brambley fruit. Cassis.

Well this is beautiful on the nose with a cherry fruit nose. Savory elements too. A bit tight on the palate, very youthful still, just opened.

Dare I say Californian? Oak still present with sheen. Sweet, pleasing and light palate.

Latour dinner. Tight, not composure or balance of 2010 alongside.
