No notes as this was a few days ago and the first wine back in a little while. Overall very enjoyable, and reminiscent of a mid-80s Latour, but resolved. Ripe red fruit was a pleasant surprise here in addition to the heavy earth nuance. Another excellent old bottle from the Wolfgang Grunewald cellar. Destroyed an '82 La Lagune alongside.

Some serious funk on the nose had us all worried, but this blew off after about 20min and the nose became fresh and bright filled with dark fruit, leather, tobacco and a bit of red fruit. Super round and full in the mouth with outstanding balance and more red fruit. Excellent finish.

VEO tasting - Mature Claret (Restaurant Bordewijk, Amsterdam, NL): Wonderfully delicious, elegant, startling floral Pinot fragrance, feminine, long, persistent; inimitable expression of terroir, incredibly young and vibrant after almost half a century, wonderful sweet cherry fruit, pure; excellent length. Brilliant.

Flickinger "Significant Cellar" Tasting (Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Classic aromas with plenty of earth, lingering black fruit, ok spice, tobacco hints. Bit firm in middle, bit sweet on finish.

Kickoff Dinner to Roy Hersh's "Great Seattle Weekend of Port" (Sammamish, WA, USA): A funky, wonky nose. On the palate this is beautifully resolved. With time in the glass it starts to break up, but while it hangs on it is lovely.
