Reddish brown and opaque. Medium-full body. Drinking very well. Tannins are well integrated giving a smooth, velvety wine. Went great with grilled flank steak with herbs.

Weekly tasting group RWP #256: Giro d'Italia (@ JdB): Beautiful and expressive bouquet with caramel, truffle and autumn forest. On the palate a beautiful and sweet start with good acidity, black berries and good complexity. The tannin is beautiful with a firm bite and the wine has a great length. Beautiful wine! 92+

I opened this bottle after returning from a tasting of 8 Vintage Piedmonts, including 2 Gaja powerhouses, so this Barolo was a little disappointing. It has a medium ruby color and a nose of roses and dark fruit. This wine tastes of blackberries, black cherries, mocha, tar, and cedar. Overall, it is medium bodied with a moderate finish. It probably is a better than I am rating it, but after sampling more mature and full bodied nebbiolos, this wine seems a little thin and less complex. Perhaps it also would have improved with a longer decant.

Redish brown hue, with fruits beginning to break down. Licorice, mint and mushroom. Went well with mushroom risotto. Decanted about an hour.
