  • Prior bottle was nearly 5 years ago and this wine has held up quite well, but was a small step down from my earlier bottle. Lots of golden fruit (especially peach and pineapple) on the nose along with floral and citrus qualities. A bit over medium bodied, but not as much density as my prior bottle showed. Starts off with yellow peach upfront, moving to golden peach through the middle as well as a host of tropical notes (pineapple, orange, mango, passion fruit). Acidity and citrus notes behind provide the balance. The wine is drinking extremely well, but in addition to the density being slightly less, the acidity was as well. It did allow the fruit to feel more nuanced and pretty, but at a slight cost to the wine's overall liveliness and contrast. Should drink well for several more years as long as the acidity continues to hold up.

  • My bottle which has been stored at around 63° F is drinking great now. Medium-full-bodied, with great balance overall, and an almost weightless mouthfeel. 7.5% ABV, and by no means cloying.
Update: Some (rather unexpected) petrol notes after 2 days in the fridge.

  • PNP into Luopai Wuguan Universal glass (“Root” day): Pale golden to the eyes.

On the nose stone fruits like peaches, white florals and fresh creme. Alluring and super well integrated as always.

Incredibly delicate yet full of flavours on palate. Perfect balance of acidity and flavours.

Wow what a great wine. 93 points.

  • PNP into Luopai Wuguan Universal glass (“Root” day): Pale gold to the eyes.

Such purity of honeyed tropical fruits like mangoes and citrus undertones, fresh cream that is alluring.

On the palate this is superbly well balanced with all the sugar supported by the high, minerality-filled acidity. Very vibrant on the palate. Persistent finish

93-94 points. A ‘wow’ wine for me.

  • Wow! This is similar to the regular spatlese (from last night), but dialed up to 12. Opened at 46F (which was slightly too cold, but emphasized the acidity nicely), warming to 52F and showed well throughout. Much richer, denser and more tropical on the nose than the regular spatlese. Between medium and full bodied with intense acidity upfront along with massive tropical fruit notes (pineapple, orange, mango, passion fruit). Wine has tremendous richness, but the acidity serves to keep the tropical notes from coming out of balance and result is a wine of purity, depth and richness. These GK's aren't dry (by any stretch), but due to the acidity level, it absolutely comes off as balanced. This will age for years upon years. Based on where the fruit and acidity are today, it several years away from peak. It's beautiful now, but will only get better. I have a line on some more bottles, but if that doesn't happen, next bottle no earlier than 2020.
