Seems like there was some leakage, the capsule was coated with wine remains and stuck to the bottle. Had me worried. Still, the bottle was sound and very enjoyable, if not deep and very complex. Served with home made curries (delish), the Spätlese had enough acid to complement and cut through the rich flavors. Really nice texture and some classic peach, apricot flavors, but not especially complex.

Still young, but quite delicious. It does need a lot more time though. Today, it showed very rich and moreish - this drank more like an old-school Auslese than a Spatlese actually. The nose was attractive, showing drops of honey and sweet notes of dried mango and candied apples along with a touch of stony mineral. It was on the palate where this really showed its chops though. There was such a deep, powerful balance to this, with lovely pure 2010 fruit showing in its flavours of honey and dried mangoes, red apples and other exotic fruit hints, and then a fruit wonderful seam of bright acidity keeping it all nicely focused and defined. Lots of lovely intensity here, but it was the balance that really shone through. Nice long finish too, showing just a little shade of stony mineral and a little sparkle peeking out from beneath the fruit. Very good. But I do think it will get even better with another 6-8 years for it to integrate more and lose some of its remaining puppy fat.

Light honey, pear, apricot on the nose. A silky honeyed palate, a bit richer than I expected, lacking in balance and finish. Tasty but soft.

Leo's birthday: Soaked cork. Petroleum on the nose, lots of tropical honeyed fruit. Not the most complex Riesling but enjoyable enough.
