  • The 2012 Pingus is exceedingly young, almost Fonseca-like in its richness and a slightly spirity edge, unlike the other vintages on display tonight.

  • The versatility is like nothing I have ever seen before. This was flip flopping from light and fresh to deep and dark. A cascade of ripe red berry fruit with alternating interludes of intense bramble berry and cherry compote. At times earthy, omnipresent sweet spices, seasoning of fresh herbs and a bit of gingerbread even. But there is more. Crushed white pepper, iodine, hints of leather and a bit of tobacco. Dense and tightly knit but at the same time incredibly light-footed and humble. Perfectly – and my that I really mean perfectly - harmonious with a firm structure - at the same time light and humble and incredibly layered with chocolate and toffee notes adding an additional kick. This is not an intense wine, unlike its reputation. Rather muted even on the intensity scale if you were expecting bombastic fireworks. But I am a real sucker of these humble, guarded wines that are so brilliant and shine only if you're willing to dive in with all your attention. I can safely say one of the best bottles of wines I've had in 2020 – which I should mention has been a spectacular year for my palate…

  • Exceptional tasting at the estate in the presence of Mr Sisseck, vertical from 2012 to 2019, the last vintages still in barrels. To summarize, the abandonment of new barrels for the last vintages may have slightly lowered the power of the wine but gained extraordinarily in finesse. It may still be too early but something tells me that their 2019 may be one of the greatest wines I will drink in my life. I was able to buy 6 en primeur bottles and I will come back to these wines in a few years

    1) 2019 100pt
    2) 2012 and 2014 98-99
    3) 2016 and 2018 98+
    4) 2015 and 2017 96-97
    5) 2013 94-95

  • My first time with this wine and I 'get it'. It's definitely priced on the crazy side, but it's also just a beautiful big and yet elegant wine which is right in my sweet spot (think like a Grange or an Unico except this is more approachable at the get go). I have balanced in my notes quite a few times. Still too young to be drinking. Would be interesting to see how these age and what a wine from maybe the 90's or so is like. This doesn't feel like a monster, but there is a concentration of flavors. I would certainly look forward to an opportunity to drink again.
