A wine that had been lost in the cellar, rediscovered tonight and opened with Thanksgiving dinner. Deeper and richer than expected, with plentiful dark cherry fruit yet also a sense of freshness with juicy acidity. Very much alive and kicking and showing no signs of letting up. Bravo!

Opened one hour in advance. Rich aromas of perfumed black fruit. Dark, deep licorice flavor up front mellows into a lighter berry fruit finish. Intense, with a relatively high 14.2 ABV but still recognizably Pinot Noir (if you know it's Pinot Noir - I'm not sure I'd call it correctly blind). It is balanced, with a firm backbone, some complexity and good staying power. Great value.

With all the fanfare about the 2012 Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs, I was a bit aprehensive. Warm summer, big fruit forward wines was the tag applied to the the vintage. Do not get me wrong. Big lusty wines really appeal to me when it comes to Cab Sauvignon and Syrah. But, with Pinot Noir, I prefer a more nuanced, acid driven wine. Having tasted several Pinots from this vintage from this AVA, I must say that I have loved the balance of fruit and acidity. The Vincent Ribbon Ridge is no exception, and one of the best QPR's on the market. Exceptional!

A joy to drink. I will now seek out the 2014 version.
