NobleRottersSydney - Marg River & Great Southern (Fix, St James, Sydney): {screwcap, 13.5%} [Stephen] Suffered a little after the 2011 bottle. Still a decent cabernet, with twig, herb and basil notes over curranty fruit. Medium weight, medium dusty tannins, medium acid. Lacks the generosity of the younger wine, seeming a bit lean and narrow in comparison. There’s a hint of green olive and capsicum to the flavours here, culminating in a medium length dry finish. Can’t see cellaring helping much here. Remains a good wine judged alone, and ready to drink!

Beautiful plush wine. Can see some signs of age but not pronounced. Mostly in texture and mellowing for me. Note is in retrospect so not much else to say except I really enjoyed this and expect it can age for another decade or more

Served immediately after opening. Could have benefitted from some time in decanter. Dark in colour with no real signs of ageing at the rim. Complex aroma of blueberry, dark fruit, wet stone, iodine, vanilla, cedar, eucalyptus, spice, kirsch. There was something green but couldn’t identify it, was more herbal than vegetal. In the mouth the acidity danced on the tongue, and there was a cleansing tannic finish. The tannins were still present, med+. The wine was full bodied with a great mouth feel, perfectly balanced and with no gaps. The finish was long, circa 30 seconds. The Wine Society’s drink date was 2025 but this could go to 2032?

One of the current cellar releases from Dan Murphys. The wine showed a deep garnet color in the glass, and I immediately noticed cherry, chocolate, and vanilla aromas. As I sipped, the black fruit flavors took center stage, providing a nice, smooth taste. What really stood out were the hints of leather and tobacco that emerged towards the end. The 2010 vintage exhibited great balance, making it a pleasure to drink at this stage. While I'm sure it has the potential to age further, if you enjoy forward fruit flavors in your wine, I'd recommend giving it a try now. Benefited from a few hours after opening.
