Perfect example (for me) of a CA Pinot Noir; smooth, non-acidic, just a hint of oak but extremely well integrated. Pleasant red fruit nose with a hint of forest floor; bright cherry color and initial taste; mild finish with mix of red fruit, hint of wood (oak) and some nice spices.

The Chalone Vineyards make a series of pinot noirs, but the one that stands above all the rest is the Chalone Estate (Appelation Chalone). More mineral than most California pinots, almost a bordeaux style. Really, really excellent. A good deal at it's normal price of $35 or so, but a steal (and worth buying by the case) if you can get it under $30.
