Garnet/tawny color. Mix of ripe red fruit and garrigue on the nose. Full, lush feel but no heat or surmaturité. Delightful mixed red fruit and black licorice with refreshing acidity and enlivening citrus peel. Remarkably fresh for a 17 year old wine from a freakishly hot year. I approached this bottle with very limited expectations, only to have them shattered by the quality of what was here.

Medium ruby color with bricking. Much lighter color and weight than the Beaucastel counterparts (2007 and 1998), and more elegant but not as complex, but all were good (though the 2007 was too young). Quite a bit of fine sediment. Surprisingly sweet red cherry fruit and black licorice; moderate oak but plenty of spice. An amazing value and drinking great now.

Hazy ruby red with some bricking. Lifted aromas of crushed strawberries, forest floor, licorice and garrigue aromas on the nose. Palate is very refined with sweet crushed red berry liqueur, hint of pan drippings & red licorice and spice box with low acidity, no tannins and a long fruity finish.
