Beaujolais with pretensions. This has clearly been built to the quality end of the market, as evidenced by both the name of the producer and the quality of the fruit and tannin. I am not yet convinced by "great" Beaujolais as for me they maybe miss out on the point of the Gamay, being juicy and approachable. This had the juice but at the moment is slightly lacking in approachability - tannins and oak still in plenty of evidence. However, I suspect that this is one to leave and come back to in a couple of years (at least).

Red fruit, flowers, violet, and a hint of pepper on the nose. Quite big tannins with dried berries and more red fruit on the palate. Pretty opulent Beaujolais, probably needs more time.

Had to tease out the nose but once I did it was inviting - a pleasant underbrush note in addition to strawberry and cranberry. Palate was smooth with the same flavors, but I had to tease that out too. It tasted as if it had lost its freshness and was in decline or, more likely, was in a slightly muted (but not totally dumb) phase. I have little experience with Cru Beaujolais, so will wait three years for my second bottle. Pleasant enough though to drink now.

Pleasant showing, it held itself well with good fruit concentration and enough freshness, even though it’s more of a casual party wine.

Conne l’impression d’être dans une phase ingrate.
Très bon à excellent quand même, avec bémol...
A revoir en 2020+
