Burgundy dinner with friends. 2006 Bertagna Clos St Denis (93) 2006 Domaine Comte Senard Corton Clos du Roi (92) 2012 Domaine Ponsot Morey Saint Denis cuveé des grives (91)
All were good, but the Bertagna was slightly better. All three of them really need 3-5 more years.

Popped and poured and then let breathe in the bottle for a while before doing this tasting note.
Wine is fairly light, clear, and bright, with a little bit of bricking at the edge.
On nose - red fruit, black fruit including currants, sun-dried soil, and a touch of smokiness.
On palate - wine is sound. Boy, is it sound. That Burgundian smoke thing really emerges along with all the aforementioned fruits. Touch of funk but nothing distracting nor frankly barnyard-ish. Tannins are quite soft and have faded into the background. Good acid backbone. Long long finish.
This is the first real example for me of getting a more humble wine, properly aged, from a top producer. And I'm not disappointed. Not at all. In fact, after tasting this, I realized, "I have to buy more Burgundy."
My wife, cellar, and wallet are all unhappy with this.

Elegant nose is dominated by red and dark berries. cranberry, plum, black cherry and violet. Polished tannins and medium finish. Very very nice! But you have to like this bit naturalistic Ponsot style, sometimes volatile acidity is quiet visible with some beetroot notes after opening. Impressive concentration for a village wine. Much better than lots of 1cru wines from mediocre producers. Should be long lived wine. I will try to keep another bottle until 2022-2025 at least.

A solid effort from a very sought after producer. Domaine Ponsot was one out of many classic producers who was illegally copied by Rudy Kurniawan. He made counterfeit bottles with “fake wine” - this is well-documented in the movie “Sour Grapes”. A nose with sour red cherries, a little burnt caramel and earthy tones of forrest floor. The palate is surprisingly light and dry with a high acidity. A little too pricy compared to quality, still a very good bottle of wine though...
