  • Paternity Leave (including Thanksgiving); 11/5/2018-12/8/2018: Stood upright for 1.5 weeks, decanted and tasted. Light ruby with tawny edges appropriate for age; medium-plus intensity, fading roses, mulch; palate is light bodied, still has prominent tannin structure, slight red fruit, high acidity; medium-minus finish. Characteristic of nebbiolo/Barolo, but with age it seems to have lost intensity without picking up additional complexity. I'll give it some air. 86 now.
2-3 hours decanted: more aromatic, floral and red fruited; palate still similar. Definitely what I expect from aged Nebbiolo, though on the simpler side. A solid if unexceptional wine. 87-88

  • Seems like there may have been some heat damaged bottles given the wide range of opinions here. I got lucky on my second and last bottle - good cherry fruit, moderately complex, an ample amount of flaky sediment but still plenty of tannin left for this to age. If you prefer your Baroli in the youthful stages of maturity with more fruit than funk, this is right in the wheelhouse.

  • Good amount of bricking, some sediment in the bottom. Floral notes and plum on the nose. Palate primarily plum, prune and a bit of tar. Not particularly expressive, but tannins have smoothed and good acidity.

I'm a bit confused by this wine. I had a glass from coravin a few months ago and it was much better, more interesting. The remainder of the bottle seemed muted and very one-noted. I originally rated 91 but this bottle at 88. I don't know if this was an issue with the coravin this time, but haven't had any problems in the past. Not a bad wine, just nothing special. Not a great value either.
