Quite clear red fruit (cherry) in the taste, and an OK acidity. Still only a very slight amount of tannins. No complexity or depth, but juicy and pleasant. Mature now, but can be kept for at least one more year. 88.

E&R's 5th Annual Beaujolais Weekend; 11/15/2014-11/16/2014 (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Rich and soft, with quite large scaled fruit on the nose. Rich, thickly fruited palate. This is pretty hefty stuff. Tart, but a little goopy on the fruit. Puckering acidity on the finish, with a ton of grittiness. Huge fruit. For me this was a little boring and genericly fruited.

A much more ambitious wine than the 2011 La Voute Saint-Vincent tasted yesterday. In stark contrast to that feminine, delicate, elegant and silky wine, this is quite powerful and extracted and has grippy, grainy tannins. However, even with a short decant these tannins mellow considerably and the wine reveals that it should have the stuffing of ripe fruit to balance the structure. Lovely freshness, flavours and length. This should be drinking well in 2-4 years' time and it should easily last for 10 - 15.

Annual Beaujolais Blowout (Focus on 2014 and 2013) (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): A shade lighter than the Voute St. Vincent. Good red fruit but less ripe. More subtle, earthy tones. The classier of the 2 Desvignes wines and excellent for the vintage.

Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Beaujolais Bash-Primarily 2013 and 2012 (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Wonderful depth of pure dark cherry fruit and bitter chocolate. This outpaced any of the other 2012 wines tried tonight. Also has some time in hand.
