Boston Wine + Poker, Salem, Mass.: Contributed by Karl (who wanted to make a case for the value of the 2004 vintage in Burgundy). Celery seed aroma. No sign of old age, but no voluptuousness either. The jury is still out on 2004.
The 3/27 Lafarge Tasting - Evolved over 4+ hours in the glass dramatically. Tight, tannic and acidic to start with a green ashtray nose. Gained weight over time. By hour 4 it was sappy with more weight and beautiful high toned notes. I think this needs more time still which is crazy to think. I would wait 2-3 more years on the next bottle.

I am in the minority, but I love this vintage and this wine is no exception. I think the lower ripeness adds a dimension of flavor that I enjoy. If you like the “great” vintages or CA Pinot you should pass on this wine. The 2004 are coming along great and the standout flavors have mellowed.

This showed a herb and red fruit nose when first opened. After a couple hours it gained much weight and ripeness of fruit. No extreme pyrazine problem here! Five bottles the same.
