A slightly low-fill auction buy. I went in with very low expectations, and thankfully they were all beat. A super solid cork that came out without a fight. Robust aromas the second the cork was lifted. Initially, notes of funk, syrup, and even raisins which led me to think this bottle had some oxidation. But those aromas faded quickly after being in the decanter for an hour. Bright lively cherries, leather, and mushrooms Really powerful tannins, even at 30 years old. This wine had life and lots of it! It wasn’t life-changing or necessarily remarkable. But it was super solid. Worth the auction gamble, that’s for sure!

PNP. Nice right out of the bottle and even better with a bit of time to warm in the glass. Mature red fruit, forest floor, very nice balance. This was really good on its own and held up well throughout dinner. Really nice, mature Burgundy that seems to be holding but in a perfect place right now. A-

I like older Faiveley, but I do think they’re mostly about power rather than charm, and when combined with this terror, it makes for correct rather than great wines. This was in great shape - far younger than the over the hill 99 Ganoux served next to it. It still has tons of structure and very good fruit. Mostly dark cherry on the nose and palate with some earth and a solid though not overly long finish. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this wine, and there’s no rush to drink it. But it’s not terribly exciting.

Stood up for over a month and then double decant. Haze never 100% settled but a lot of fine sediment accumulated at the bottom of the glass and last few ounces were discarded (and tasted a bit harsh). Only tried the rest a few hours later (per the CT note below suggesting perhaps more time and air required).
Palate: dark purple wild berry, hint of savory cranberry, freshly tilled earth. A lot of rustic earth on the finish, but pairs well with the lush wildberry fruit. Balanced acidity. Really NSG!
I originally thought I would give this a 94, but I noticed more cinnamon bite on the finish over time and lowered to 92-93.
No rush, but would definitely recommend standing up any bottles for some time prior to consuming to let that sediment settle.

Rustic but elegant nose that features pretty berry fruit and mild underbrush. Quite dark, earthy. Palate has blue fruit is is surprisingly tough at this point. Lightened up and offered some perfume over serval hours.
