1990s Burgundy, part one (Noize): The most tannic wine tonight. Actually quite nice, with sweet strawberry, juicy acidity and a spicy feel to it. Suspect better in five years' time.

Nick A’s 1990’s burgundy (Noizé, London): Lovely colour again. Curious nose of gentlemen’s relish. Finely polished. Nicely silky. Some soy Unami coming through as the patum peperium fades. This is quite 96 Faiveley, though with further air it softens and rounds to reveal quite an attractive wine. Again, the glasses don’t help. **(**)

A fairly ordinary nose, making me think that it might be in a bit of a dumb phase. Pretty tight on the palate with dark, fairly dense fruit. At the moment coming across as a good, if unexceptional Burgundy. Firm tannins on the finish. I suspect this is still too young.

Very dark on the palate, much darker and brawnier than anticipated, yet smoothed out on the sides from bottle age, giving a silky mouthfeel. But the palate is still very tight. It shows lots of dark berry fruit that seems only slightly softened with age, without a lot of secondary development to the palate. This seems to have many years to go. With the Sugarmen and MS at Racines.
