Community Tasting Notes (21) Avg Score: 88.7 points

  • Bought 4b for 15/b from Last Bottle 5+ years ago; this is #3. Drawn to the Cline Cali Rhone and Languedoc varietals. Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Medium purple; muted red fruit nose that opened some and followed on the palate, good mouthfeel. Tasty but overall simple, good match with Malta glazed ribs, though perhaps a bit masked by the glaze. Glad I have more but not a re-buy. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: For me, scores on a "100-point scale" are misleading. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. This is notable when considering quality, age, and price.

  • Bought 4b for 15/b from Last Bottle 3+ years ago. I think this is the first we've tried. Decanted with heavy sediment for its age. Dark purple; fragrant red fruit nose with some cherry, hint of menthol, cloves; more red ftuit with some herbal quality (not herbaceous). One of the few carignane-based wines I've tasted so frame of reference is limited. Tasty and perhaps an acquired taste; probably well made and typical for the varietal. Saved a glass for 24h, and the medicinal quality seemed a bit more pronounced. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I considered this notable+ when considering quality, age, and price.

  • A very nice fruity wine. A bit of sweet but still some complexity

  • Silky and smooth with bright fruit and a little spicy in the finish, a beautiful expression of this historic California vineyard.

  • Still great but the tail is starting to fade. Drink it soon.
