  • Stupendous! Granted, it was from a magnum that has been perfectly cellared but there are few very shirazes on the planet that could outshine this wine.

Brick-red with a brown tinge. Superbly refined aromas consisting of spices (nutmeg and pepper) with dark fruits (plum and dark berries) and a hint of chocolate and earthinesss.

Beautiful purity of fruits on the body, clean but with characters and supported by a freshness that is spellbound. Still firm tannin to provide power but with air-suspension suppleness. Long finish with lovely integration and has additional notes of mint, eucalyptus, tar and just wonderful concentration. Amazing and simply wow.

    Drink now to 8+ years.

  • No formal note. Cork and bottle in perfect condition, appears to be a recent bottling.
Wine itself is underwhelming. Flavours tasted underdeveloped, even after generous aeration in the decanter. It stayed flat for over 3h. We have had several less prestigious shiraz from Tahbilk that we preferred over this bottle. Sadly this was the only one we had.

Drink or hold, uncertain about upside.

  • Coravin; deep ruby, much sediments; clean, pronounced nose of blackcurrant, plum, cassis, mint, rose, cedar, tar, leather, smoked meat; dry, medium acid, tannic, full body, blackberry, mushrooms, cedar, mesquite, tar, leather, roast beef, medium finish; nice complexity and still holding out well despite the vintage age

  • Cellaraid - A Night with Chef Kentaro (Shisen Hanten, Mandarin Orchard): clear, deep ruby; pronounced nose, with blackbarry, grass, toasted oak, tar, leather, mint, and some fungal notes; dry, low acid but very heavy tanins, blackberry, mushrooms, toasted oak, tar and fine leather, medium finish

  • Retro label for this release. 300 doz made. Cork in immaculate condition. Nice fruit core of red berries (cranberry, raspberry) and cherry, with supporting savoury spice, leather and supple tannins. This is quite an elegant, delicate cool climate Australian Shiraz, and has layers of complexity. In good nick despite its 21 years of age. Nice.

Addendum: finishing the remnants on day 2, and the savoury spice is more predominant, along with cigar box and some smoky notes. Definitely still in a robust condition, with the fruit not over-ripe and porty.
