Pristine bottle, level into neck, perfect cork. Ungrafted vines planted in 1860. A rare wine - only 280 cases produced. Light colour, mature but lively; fresh and cedary nose, sweet red berries, hints of beef stock and green herbs; elegant and flowing palate, fresh and transparent, harmonious, hint of smoke, gentle tannic grip; light finish, hint of white tea, good length. Fully mature, drink up.

Taste: Full bodied with medium acidity and polished tannins. While the feel is on the bigger side, it holds it all very well with dark red cherries, herbs, root vegetables, cedar, and black fruits.
Overall: This was a beautiful and mature shiraz. It was very well polished and showed a more herbal side than I am normally accustomed to.

Chicago Rotating Dinner Series - August 2013 (the Kangaroo Dinner) (Frontier - Chicago, IL): An old-vine cuvee of the highest order. I loved the rusticity of this wine. Of all the Shiraz we had, this was the most rustic and gamey. Loved the meats, the smoke, the earth, and the dark berries. The palate was elegant and pure. Great black fruit at its core with some leather, meat, earth and spice. Reminded me of a Cornas.

Rotating Dinner Series- Kangaroo Dinner (Frontier, Chicago IL): Nose: This is a very balanced nose with good layering and depth to it. This is well poised with dark red cherries, herbs, root vegetables, black fruits, and spice tones.
