  • Premeaux limestone, blackberries scents are followed by a coiled mouthfeel, took time to open up, an excellent Beaune 1er, with lifted qualities.

  • My second lafarge beaune greves. I’m a massive fan of the domaine but will stick to the volnay bottlings. All tannins resolved but a hint of bitterness that I did not enjoy. I’ve generally been pleasantly surprised by the 2013 vintage but this was merely ok.

  • Beaune 1er cru are really good values. I remember a Beaune Greves 1983 who was fantastic. Pale red. Still slightly reduced, with perfumes of red berries and stems. In the mouth the wine is pure, slightly sweet and finishes with a cherry pit bitterness. Tannins are smooth, overall very good balance and very well done for the vintage. This is not yet at peak, another 5 years will bring more complexity and perfume, but it can be drunk now with 3 hours of air. Its active limestone and sleek flavor profile demands some fat, a whole roasted chicken or duck with the reduced chicken sauce in its fat.
