  • SLDS Single Bottle Dinner: Five spice, lifted orange peel, earthy notes along with red berries. The palate shows plenty of generous red and black fruits, with an amplified power pulsing throughout. Has density but also flows into a very good length finish. Incredibly youthful now, with superb promise for the future.

  • Starter forsiktig.
Konsentrasjon, sødme og syre går hånd i hånd.
    Balanse på ypperste nivå.
Lineær og drikker supert med luft.
Meget lang finish med de fineste tanniner.

  • 2013 Grand Cru Horizontal tasting (Prince Wine Store, Bank Street, Melbourne): Blackberry and wild ferment, rich and dense with cherry notes here as well Slight struck match. In the mouth the berry fruit is slightly metallic, structurally this is backed by talc textured tannins that close things down a bit too much for me. Perhaps needs a bit more time.

  • Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Tasting (St Regis, Singapore): Head and shoulders above everything else on the day, this was a simply profound wine. In fact, it is probably one of the best young Burgundies I have had in some time. It had such a great nose, deeper and grander in scale than the pair of Reignots that came before, with deep, deep notes of dark berries and blueberries, almost Musigny like at points, but enlivened by a lovely infusion of Vosne spice, with some dried flowers, a bit earth and some mineral chasing around the sides. Those aromas were still shadowed a bit by new oak at points, but it all still made for a great, great nose. It was superlative on the palate too. As good as the pair of Reignots that came before this were, this had so many more dimensions to it, with a multifaceted depth that only the very best Grand Crus in Burgundy share, unfolding in the mouth with layer after layer of black cherry and plum seasoned with gentle notes of earth and spice, then just the lightest hint of tea and herb, all wrapped up in a deep robe velvety tannins and incredibly well-integrated acidity. This was at once giving and generous, yet also so complete and whole and concentrated that it seemed almost seemed monolithic. The finish, especially, was long, thick and powerful, with an effortlessly broad-shouldered flush of warm spice mingling amidst deep dark cherry and orange peel notes. There was the muscular strength and wild, powerful intensity of the La Romanee vineyard beating at the heart of the wine, but there was still an elegance and finesse to it that is a hallmark of all of Louis-Michel's wines. Great, great stuff, absolutely complete, surprisingly giving in its youth, yet this is one that will last for just about forever. I think it should be given 15-20 years at minimum to age. Only 4000 bottles or so are produced from this monopole (the smallest AOC in France at 0.84 hectares) per year, and the wines have become prohibitively expensive. But for those who can afford this rarest of pleasures, this really represents the best of what Burgundy can offer – magic in a bottle. 96+
