Paired with the 88 Teurons. This showed more than three years younger and not quite as complex with the fruit still showing elements of primary character, though there is clearly some age with earth, clay and dried spice accents. Lots to love here with old school Burgundy charm and complexity.

Chablis and Red Côte de Beaune Dinner (Portofino - Chicago IL): Charming and elegant cross-section of cherries on nose and palate with as much earth. Good weight and better balance. Tasted double blind alongside 1988 Teurons, I correctly identified this as the younger wine even though it had a more advanced character, and thought 1993. Slightly past its peak, but still good.

A bit better than the last bottle I tasted in February. Great earthiness with a light green note. Taste was both more fruity and earthy. Just the same light metallic bitterness as before. Still great QPR. Nice aged burg that won't break the bank.

Ex-cellar. Had to be recorked as there was no soak. Super young within first 3 hrs with super ripe fruit and just a hint of tertiary character. Over time it opened up and earthy flavors appeared with some tobacco leaf, The the fruit dropped off significantly, but what was left seemed a bit baked at that point. Seemed a bit unbalanced at this point and a unpleasant sour note appeared. Moderate tannic structure, good acid tho. Honestly, this was best during the first couple hours after opening.

Lovely, harmonious, fully-resolved Burgundy; red cherry, red apple peel, a little funk, warm earth, brick-y. Lithe, fine-boned. Delicious - slips right down - but interesting, too.
